Sahuarita Edge Staff

Welcome from the staff members currently working at the Sahuarita Edge campus:

	Robert Lopez - Student Services Coordinator Robert Lopez is the Case Manager at the Edge School in Sahaurita . He has been case managing for 34 years, 12 of these at Edge. He attended several different schools including Arizona State University, Pima College and in his words, the "School of Hard Knocks". His favorite subject was always History. Before he worked at Edge High School he worked at the Judicial Supervision Program supervising divorced parents and their children. He thought he would make a good case manager when he figured out that he had a talent for communicating with kids. Today he loves working with the Edge kids. He says, " I feel very fufilled when I get to watch one of my students graduate and I know that I helped them." "I don't think this is a school for bad kids, they are just unique and independent thinking students," says Robert. He also says that to do what he does you have to be tolerant, patient, and compassionate.
Jamie Christensen - Teacher   Jamie is a teacher at Edge in Sahuarita. This is her 2nd semester teaching. She went  to Arizona Western College, Eastern Arizona College, and BYU-Idaho.  Her favorite subject in high school was math and in college her favorite subject was history. She thinks that kids do not come from cookie cutters and that Edge provides students with the opportunity to learn in an environment that allows for different students' individual styles. She hasn't been teaching long enough to experience the joy of watching her students graduate but is looking foward to it. Her 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Cameron, helped her decide to be a teacher but so did her desire to help people. She says "If you want to be a teacher, go for it. We need good teachers."
	Darryl J. Cornell - Teacher Darryl is another of the teachers at Edge in Sahuarita. He has been teaching for 8 years, 7 of them here at Edge. He most recently went to Stony Brook University in New York where he received his Masters degree in teaching Russian. His favorite subject in high school was also History. Darryl served in the Army for 10 years before he started teaching at Edge. He says, "Teaching in the military helped me choose to become a high school teacher. And moving from the military to the classroom was made possible through the Troops To Teachers Program."  He also believes that " Edge is a unique school, it's important that kids who fall between the cracks have somewhere to go and succeed. When a student graduates, it makes me feel proud of their accomplishment." He understands that you have to develop a lot of patience to be a teacher today.
Bob Evans - Teacher Assistant Bob graduated from Michigan Tech in 2006 where he majored in Psychology and played on the Div-II basketball team. Bob's favorite subjects in high school were Science and Health. Before coming to Edge High School Bob worked with special education students at Sahuarita High School. His wife currently teaches Math at SHS as well. When asked what he likes about Edge, Bob says he believes that this school provides students with a good alternative to the traditional school system.
