Edge High School stands for so many things. Individualized lesson plans. Flexible scheduling. Caring teachers. Tuition-free enrollment. But did you know that our name is an acronym? It literally stands for “Educational Group Effort”, and it means that our school is about more than just our teachers and staff. Edge High School is about our community – coming together to help all of our students achieve success.
The Edge community includes local businesses and nonprofit organizations that partner with us throughout the year – including after-school programs and in-school services. But new this year, our partners are pairing up with our Wednesday electives to teach classes that you just won’t find anywhere else.
Four days a week we teach core classes that you might find in most high schools. But on Wednesdays, we take a break from our regular schedule and offer a variety of elective classes. You can choose from core electives or new electives taught by our community partners. Electives are 80-minute classes, and the options change from quarter to quarter- depending on student interests and needs.
Standard Electives
Core electives include Yoga, PE, Art, Creative Writing and Student Government. These are some of our most popular electives that we offer.
Community Partner Electives
We are expanding our list of partner electives to include new courses based on student interests and requests. These electives change from year to year, but focus on building life skills, exploring new interests and career paths, and taking deeper dives into healthy habits and lifestyles.
- AZYP (Arizona Youth Partnerships) teaches a healthy relationship course, and a substance abuse prevention course
- SAAF (Southern Arizona Aids Foundation) teaches courses in Sexual Health and STD Prevention, Suicide Prevention, Sexual Violence Prevention, and Substance Abuse Prevention
- Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona teaches an Employability Skills course
- WorkEd will provide a virtual Cyber Security Externship
- Sonoran Glass School teaches students the art and science of glass fusing and blowing
- I AM You 360’s “I Am Somebody” curriculum focuses on building self-confidence and self-worth
- Boys To Men Tucson Talking Circles will give male identifying youth a safe place to share things they are experiencing
