Does it ever seem like no one is listening to you? At Edge, you don’t have to feel that way. Edge High School is an alternative tuition-free charter school that helps our students find success their own way. We create self-paced individualized lesson plans that get you to your graduation goals. We collaborate with community partners, evaluate and update our curriculum, and are committed to improving learning experiences for all of our students. It’s a lot of work, but it starts with something simple: listening.
Check-Ins
At Edge, our teachers and counselors want to get to know you. Every day we will check-in 1:1 to find out how you are doing. What’s on your mind? Any big assignments coming up? How’s it going outside of school? Our check-ins can happen before, during or after school. We may check in with a text, take a walk together or sit down in a breakout room to have a quiet conversation. Need a friendly ear? We are here to listen without judgment. And if you need any support in overcoming obstacles, our daily check-in is a great first step in connecting you with the help you need.
First Name Basis
One of the many unique things about Edge High School is our first-name policy. Edge administrators, teachers and counselors go by our first names with our students. It sends a message – here, you will be treated differently than at traditional high schools. But it also conveys our belief that at Edge, everyone is equal. Your thoughts and ideas are valuable, and we honor our work together.
You Can Tell Us
No matter what you are experiencing, struggling with, or worried about, we are here to help. We provide free on-site licensed social workers to help deal with things that may not have anything to do with school – and help you move on. Need more support? We partner with behavioral health providers and have access to financial support to help you pay for services if you need it.
Build Your Voice
Edge has always valued student thoughts and ideas, and welcomes student input as we strive to improve our school. We host quarterly stakeholder meetings that give students, families and our community the opportunity to voice their thoughts on courses, teachers and programs. These conversations are used to shape our curriculum and services for current and future Edge students.
But self-advocacy doesn’t just apply to your thoughts about school. As an Edge student, you’ll build skills to speak up for yourself, make your own decisions about your life, and identify others who will support you in your goals. Our Emotional Intelligence Curriculum teaches tools that can help you navigate your life now and after graduation. You’ll choose from a variety of topics each quarter that are designed to help you become more self-aware, so you can identify and process emotions, create healthy relationships and make decisions that are best for you.
Create Your Place
As an Edge student, you can sign up for a “Student Government” elective – a class that engages students to be the voice of our student body. As a Student Government student, you’ll have the opportunity to affect change and create a learning environment that reflects the interests and priorities of yourself and your peers. You’ll weigh in on student engagement initiatives and curriculum changes, participate in community service projects and leadership skills training. Unlike an elected student government program, our class is open to everyone who wants to join. It’s a great way to make your thoughts and ideas heard to improve Edge for all learners – and we hope to see you there!
