An Edge charter tuition-free high school student wearing cap and gown shakes hands with a staff member at graduation ceremony

Depending on where you are with high school credits, graduation can sometimes feel like a long way away. But at Edge High School, getting you to graduation is what we do. No matter what obstacles you may be facing, our tuition-free charter high school has pathways and resources that will work. To get started, here are 5 tips that will help you achieve your graduation goals.

1. Set An Intention

We’ve said it before – intentions make a difference! An intention is a small agreement you have with yourself that can be something small and attainable each day. It’s a starting point for every dream, including high school graduation. And it’s a great way to push out any negative feelings that are living rent free in your head. When you find yourself in a quiet place – before class, on a bus, or when you first wake up – simply remind yourself of your intention to graduate. Try saying “I can do this and I will graduate.” You’ll start every day on the right foot.

2. Show Up

Did you know that you can improve your chances for graduating by simply coming to school? Research shows that missing 10 percent of school, or about 18 days a year, can have a negative impact on academic performance. So no matter how prepared – or unprepared – you may feel for school when you get up in the morning, come anyway. The more you attend, the more you achieve!

3. Check In With Us

Edge High School is a unique school in so many ways. One example? Edge teachers and staff go by their first names with our students. We want to get to know you and we definitely want to hear about all the stuff going on in your life. Every day we will take time to check in with you and find out how you’re doing. Having trouble diving into your math assignment? Struggling with a personal relationship or job issues? We are here to listen and help you stay on track with your academic goals. No matter what you are going through, lean on us. We’ve heard it all and we’ve got your back.

4. Use Your Tools

Your teachers and counselors at Edge are here to help you succeed. We’ll help you create a schedule that keeps you on pace to graduate and lines up with your academic abilities. And we’ll help you remove any barriers that can keep you from your graduation dreams. Falling behind or need some help with your class work?  You can schedule time to work with your teacher 1 on 1 after school and we can show you how to access online tutoring through our online curriculum!

Our support doesn’t stop with course work. Edge counselors and staff can help you manage the stresses of your life. Edge is a shame-free zone where you can always share your worries with a staff member. We have licensed clinical social workers on site who can help you process and cope with challenges, and connect you with outside resources if you need them, including free counseling and mental health support.

5. Celebrate Successes

From passing a math test to turning in a paper, don’t forget to celebrate your achievements along the way! Take a walk, text a friend, get a snack – whatever works for you. And did we mention that we celebrate too? Edge has fun ways to bring you together with your classmates to unwind and connect, including a weekly Snack Bar and themed events. And every spring we host a special graduation ceremony for our students. You’ll get fitted for your cap and gown and share a special milestone with your family and friends, as well as your Edge family. We can’t wait to celebrate all the ways you will succeed at Edge!
