At Edge High School, learning is about a lot more than reading and math. Through field trips, leadership training and campus visits, we get out into the community to learn new skills, discover options for employment and study after graduation, and find out about resources that can help us navigate life’s challenges. We also partner with community organizations to give back through an annual Day of Service. This year, Edge students participated in a wide range of activities to make a difference in our community.
Native Seeds Conservation
Edge students visited Native seeds to learn about seed conservation and the work that this nonprofit is doing to support sustainable farming and food security in Tucson. We got a tour, harvested seeds and deseeded them, and worked in gardens. We learned about native plants from local tribes and the effects of colonization on traditional seeds.
Students visited the ranch and learned more about the work they are doing in animal therapy.
We joined the Audubon Society on a bird walk and cleaned up trash and debris from the Santa Cruz River.
Tucson Watershed Management Group
We learned about the invasive Buffel grass and the work that the Watershed Group is doing to manage its effects on the local landscape.
Staff from Tucson Clean and Beautiful helped our students plant 7 new trees in conjunction with our campus solar project.
Edge Volunteers
A group of Edge students stayed on campus during our Day of Service and created affirmation sidewalk chalk art, wrote a letter to a student’s parent who is in the hospital and made sandwiches for a nearby soup kitchen. Thank you volunteers!
