At Edge, we are here to support every unique learner who enters our doors. Our smaller classes and personal 1:1 relationships allow us to customize learning and class assignments for every student. Our Edge teachers are skilled at helping every student learn, and to pace school work accordingly. We are here to help you get that diploma you deserve.

Edge has seen too many of our beloved students get down on themselves or feel frustrated or ashamed that they’re behind or lacking in credits. This is rarely the student’s fault. It’s more a reality of life and the things many students cannot control. And we are here to help change it!

At Edge, we believe you have a choice in your education and our goal is to support your growth and help you meet your individual goals, flexibly. Being a part of the Edge community means finding guidance from caring teachers, counselors, staff, and your peers. In a small school, we are all here to support each other and grow together.

We incorporate an Emotional Intelligence curriculum through BASE Education as a way to reach every important Edge student. The Emotional Intelligence curriculum allows students to learn about themselves and teaches them how to practice self care. Emotional Intelligence classes help us with our social emotional learning (SEL) and tackling seemingly taboo topics head-on.

We incorporate BASE Education classes to help us teach our students, like you, about the importance of emotional intelligence. As defined by DIctionary.com — emotional intelligence (EQ) is the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one’s emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically. Current thinking is that having EQ matters for success in the workplace and effective relationships.

 Emotional Intelligence Curriculum

Our Emotional Intelligence curriculum is offered as an elective class on Wednesdays. Students can earn .25 elective credit. Additionally, we use specific courses from BASE as interventions within our Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports. As an example a student who is habitually late to school may be assigned to take the Truancy course in BASE. A student who is working with the counselor and discloses being in a toxic relationship might be assigned a course in Healthy Relationships, Setting Boundaries, Self-Worth, or Self Advocacy. This curriculum  helps our high school students, just like you, recognize their self worth and emotional journey, with compassion and curated guidance.

When students first take a class within BASE they take a brief baseline survey on habits, skills, decision making, risky behavior, etc. After this baseline assessment,  our Edge high school students are assessed two other times throughout the year. Growth happens here!

Interventions with Heart

Edge uses IXL to remediate skills in math and ELA. Students take a diagnostic test after they enroll which helps us understand a student’s grade level skills in math and reading. We use the data to meet every individual student’s needs by going back and providing instruction and support to each student on the things they don’t know.  Here’s a quick video that explains how we use IXL:

At Edge, we spend time and resources developing our SEL and EQ platforms to elevate things that help our students feel better about their day — like empathy, kindness, and having a safe space to share. We’ve seen our SEL efforts bolster Edge students’ attitudes toward being here and showing up in a  real way for classes. Our students feel less isolated and ultimately less stressed about high school in general. And before we know it, Edge students are catching up and on their way to graduating.
