The Pima County School Superintendent’s Office is offering a free half day virtual externship experience focused on healthcare careers. Edge students are invited and encouraged to attend the entire session as a virtual field trip. This experience provides our 9th to 12th grade students, and others across Pima County, with a 3-hour virtual learning opportunity. The session details medical field career paths and connects you to post high school healthcare program options. Why not get a jump on learning more about medical jobs to see if it’s a fit for you? This helpful career-planning session includes:
- Career path opportunities within Tucson Medical Center(TMC) & Carondelet
- Resources to explore careers
- Information on high demand/high wage medical jobs
- Technical and employability skills needed in the medical industry
The Schedule for Virtual Healthcare Career Connect Day
Because of quotas the county has, students must attend all sessions. Here’s the schedule:

These sessions are brought to you by The Pima County School Superintendent’s Business & Education Partnerships Program, The Center for the Future of Arizona, The Pima County Workforce Investment Board, and the Pima for Youth Program at Pima Community College. Be sure to register to receive detailed information about additional employers, internship opportunities, and medical programs at Pima Community College. Remember the cost is free!
While Pima County high school students are the intended audience — all are welcome; including Superintendents, Principals, Counselors, CTE Directors, CTE Healthcare Instructors, General Education Teachers, Parents, School Nurses, Teachers Aids, and PTO Members. STEP 1 – Take the Holland Code Test
Go to openpsychometrics.org and take the Holland Code test. It should take you about 5 – 10 minutes to complete.
STEP 2 – Check out Career Recommendations
Once you complete the Holland Code test and go to your results page, you will see your charts.
- Read through the information.
- Scroll down to “Suitable Careers.”
Explore Your Future
- Click the link that will pull up careers that match your RIASEC markers. You will be
directed to ONETonline. - Check out some of the recommended occupations.
STEP 3 – Visit PipelineAZ to find Local Job Openings
After you have explored different occupations and career clusters on ONET, look up job openings in your career in Arizona.
- Go to PipelineAZ.
- In the “Search” bar enter the career or occupation that interests you. This will bring up a
list of current openings in AZ. - Explore 3-5 of the positions.
STEP 4 – Start your Career Comparison Chart
Once you have explored a few career options, use this template to start your Career Comparison Chart.
