Edge High School is an alternative tuition-free charter school that welcomes all learners – regardless of your background or experience in other schools. Our individualized approach to curriculum is created to help you meet your graduation goals on a schedule that works for you. Our teachers and staff get to know each of our students personally, with daily check-ins to help link you to resources if you need them.
But did you know that behind the scenes there’s a group of committed volunteers who are working to make our school a great place for every student? The Edge Board of Directors help make sure that we are staying true to our mission, and complying with the many state and federal education regulations. As the newest member of our Board of Directors, we recently chatted with Reginald (Reggie) Laister to learn more about what he does at Edge, and why he loves his work.
How and when did you get involved with Edge?
Edge welcomed me to their staff in 2009 as an attendance coordinator, in class tutor and basketball coach. During my time at Edge I grew to love our students and our vision “Success for every student every day” and still to this day I actively push those I support to tap into their unrealized potential. I know it takes an Educational Group Effort to support students in accomplishing their goals and seeing their dreams come to reality.
What do you do in your “day job”?
Currently I am the Business Development Manager at Saavi Services for the Blind where we teach blind or visually impaired individuals life and employment skills that result in their ability to live independent and productive lives. We also educate the general public on the capabilities of blind people, support family members, community partners, employers and school districts in understanding what accessibility means from a blind perspective. Each month our staff and students volunteer in the community as well as invite community members to volunteer with us in various ways. Edge students have most recently participated in a campus clean-up with our Saavi family and did a great job interacting with our clients while learning more about blindness and blind resources.
What do you love the most about Edge?
I love the non-traditional approach to education. The self-paced curriculum and half day options for those who have life responsibilities that don’t allow for full day schedules is an awesome option to have.
What else would you like us to know about YOU?
I feel I have a personal responsibility to support our youth and at risk populations in my community. Human services is in my heart and I will always have a desire to support those in need in an appropriate and meaningful way! It brings me pleasure helping others reach their ultimate goals and win at life!
Our tuition-free charter high school helps our students reach their graduation goals by supporting their unique needs. Our Board of Directors, staff and teachers are all working to ensure student success. Find out more and enroll today!
