When you first enroll at tuition-free Edge High School, you may bring some challenging life circumstances with you. But we are ready for you. We’ll help you build skills that support healthy decisions – not just in school but in your life outside of school. And in the process, you may discover something about yourself that you didn’t know was inside of you: Leadership.
Supporting Edge Graduates
For the past few years, Edge has worked with Lapan Sunshine Foundation to support our graduates through the “Lapan College & Career Club”. This club helps coach, counsel, and provide support to recent graduates so they transition successfully to life after high school – including helping with interview skills, personality assessments, and more. They also offer financial support to cover college expenses, based on the grades you earn in high school.
Recognizing Future Leaders
In 2021, Lapan launched the “Annual Lapan Leadership Summit” – an annual gathering of young leaders from across Tucson. Participants are recent high school graduates, nominated by their teachers, schools, or community members. They are invited to attend a three-day summit that includes leadership training and networking opportunities, workshops in mentoring youth and making connections in the community, and practice in presenting themselves and telling their stories. First-generation college students learn about what to expect as they head off to college, from students who have been there. They even get treated to a shopping spree for outfits to wear to college and job interviews!
We at Edge are proud to report that several Edge graduates have been nominated to participate as Lapan Leaders this year, including Matthew King (you can read more about Matthew here) and Serah Nicodimus. Edge alumnae Serena Gonzalez attended the 2022 Leadership Summit (you can read more about Serena here).
Are You Next?
Many Edge students have overcome a lot of challenging life circumstances to grow into the leaders that they are today. The Lapan Leadership Summit is a wonderful opportunity to honor their journeys and support their futures. Are you graduating soon? Talk with your Edge teacher or staff about how you can get involved with Lapan!
We believe that every Edge student has the potential to be a future leader. Are you next? Learn more about how Edge can help you develop your skills – inside and outside the classroom – and enroll today.
