Edge High School is different from any other high school that you have attended. Starting when you walk through our doors. Because we meet our students where they are – regardless of their history, ability, or attitude about school. We are here for you – as a person, and as a student. Here’s how.
Strengths and Opportunities
During your first week here, you will take several diagnostic assessments to help us determine the best ways to support you in reaching your goals.
We’ll assess your grade-level skills, what you’ve learned so far in school and what you still need to complete. You may feel embarrassed about where you’re at compared to your peers, but we get it and want you to know that it’s ok. You are already taking your first steps towards a successful future, and you don’t need to worry about where other students are in their learning journeys. That’s one of the things that’s unique about Edge – every student here is on their own unique path, and comparing just isn’t possible. We don’t share your assessments with anyone other than you and your teachers – so you can use this time to just focus on yourself.
We’ll also assess HOW you learn. Are you a visual learner? Are you a kinesthetic or auditory learner? We have tools for you! From text-to-speech features in our curriculum that read the materials to you, to more one-on-one time with your teachers, we can support diverse learning styles – even inside the same classroom. We work with you to determine your growth mindset and what your strongest intelligences are. Identifying these skills can help you as you learn to advocate for yourself, both inside and outside the classroom. They can also help you match your skills with career choices beyond high school.
Supporting Next Steps
Once we understand your starting point, we’ll work with you to create an individualized learning plan that will help you meet your graduation goals. This plan is unique to you, and at a pace that can be adjusted to reflect the demands of family, work or other challenges you’re facing. We’ll check in with you every day to see how you are doing – “What’s your biggest obstacle outside of school?” – and help link you with resources if you need them. We have licensed social workers on staff, partnerships with behavioral health providers, and even access to financial support to help you pay for services if you need it.
- Boys To Men Tucson offers mentoring programs for teens to help them develop the emotional intelligence tools they need to gain confidence in the choices they make.
- Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation promotes health and well-being for teens living with HIV, as well as LGBTQ+ individuals and communities marginalized by society.
- Arizona Youth Partnership builds healthy youth through programs that address substance abuse, homelessness, pregnancy, and challenging home dynamics.
During your time at Edge you’ll also access our Emotional Intelligence Curriculum, teaching skills and tools that can help you navigate your life now and after graduation. You’ll choose from a variety of topics each quarter that are designed to help you become more self-aware, so you can identify and process emotions, create healthy relationships and make decisions that are best for you.
At Edge High School we are committed to your growth and success from the moment you walk through our doors. Find out how you can join us and start your future today!
