If you’re thinking about enrolling at Edge High School (Edge), you may find yourself wondering what it’s actually like to be a student here. Having some anxiety about starting a new school is something that everybody goes through. But we are here to make sure that the transition goes smoothly – and may even be a little fun!
Checking in Academically
When you first arrive at Edge’s Himmel Park or Northwest campus, you’ll check in with our staff. We’ll sit down one-on-one with you to check in about where you are at – both academically and emotionally. You’ll find out how Edge works – how credits work, what self-paced learning is, and our expectations around attendance. You’ll also learn where to go for academic support, tutoring services, and how to sign up for them.
…and Emotionally
Edge support doesn’t stop at academics. We’ll give you information on mental health services, how to access them, and any other resources that you may need during your time here. No matter what issues you may be struggling with, we’ve got you covered. Edge is a Shame Free Zone! Which means there’s no reason to feel ashamed or embarrassed talking to us about your life obstacles. Listening and helping you overcome those obstacles is a big part of why we’re here! Edge is a safe space for you to share your worries with our staff.
A Test You Can’t Fail
During your first week at Edge you’ll also take a test to assess your learning. Unlike other tests you may have taken – you’re guaranteed to pass! Our IXL Diagnostic tool will help us determine where you are at in your education so that we can create a plan to get you to your graduation goals. A lot of our students have no idea how many high school credits they have earned when they first start at Edge, and you may be surprised to find out that you are further along than you think. Regardless of how many credits you have left, you’ll walk away feeling empowered to take the next steps and take charge of your own learning.
Families Welcome
You’ll attend the first week at Edge on your own. But following that week, we want to meet with your parent(s) or guardian(s) within the first 30 days of your enrollment. This is just a short meeting to introduce them to Edge teachers and staff, so they know who’s who.
And Time for Fun
Did we mention that you may actually have some fun? Your first week at Edge isn’t only about learning what we do and determining what you may need from us. It’s also about getting to know each other! You’ll meet your classmates and we’ll all participate in some fun team-building activities. We’ll try to keep the cringe at a minimum and you’ll probably make some new friends in the process. Are you ready to join Edge? We can’t wait to meet you!
