When you enroll at tuition-free Edge High School, you’ll probably hear the term “Credit Recovery” used by our teachers and staff. So what is it? And is it for you? Here are some common questions that students ask us – and our answers!

“What is it?”

Students who fail or miss a high school class may not have enough credits to be able to meet graduation requirements. Credit Recovery programs give you the opportunity to earn those credits and get back on the path to graduation. At Edge, we use a variety of educational strategies and programs to give our students the opportunity to redo coursework or retake a course through alternate means. We’ll help you avoid failure and earn academic credit. And our self-paced model allows you the opportunity to recover credit on your own timeline.

“Will it work for me?”

Absolutely! The results speak for themselves: over the course of the most recent school year the average Edge student advanced two years in language and 1.5 years in math – and 30 percent of our students completed at least 3 grade levels! Implementing strategies like working on school work at home and participating in before or after school tutoring will help you achieve your graduation goals. Unlike other high school experiences you may have had, at Edge, we believe in you and are committed to your success!

“Will it fit my schedule?”

Whether you are the CEO of procrastination or a motivated student that wants to work at a faster pace, the simple answer is….YES. All of our students have busy schedules, with job and family demands that can make school work a challenge. At Edge, we’ll help you take charge of your education and graduate at a pace that works for you. We offer computer based or text book learning resources; a shorter school day; two campuses; and year-round scheduling – lots of options to make your graduation a reality.

“How do I earn credits?”

Credit recovery can take different amounts of time depending on the program.  At Edge High School you take only 3 classes at a time, allowing you to focus and accomplish more than in a traditional school. Most students are able to complete courses in 2-3 months. Unlike a traditional school, at Edge you do not have to wait until the end of a quarter or semester in order to earn credit. Our students earn credit when they finish all the assignments on their syllabus with a 70% or higher on each assignment.

“What if I struggle to learn?”

We teach Growth Mindsets and the science behind it – which means that even if you struggle with certain skills, your abilities aren’t set in stone. Our teachers, counselors and staff go by our first names with our students – we are here to build relationships with you. Our supportive 1:1 instruction model and daily check-ins ensure that we know what’s on your mind, and if you need us, we are here for you. We will help you process and cope with challenges that may affect your ability to succeed, and can connect you with on-campus tutoring or outside resources if you need them. Edge is a shame-free zone where you are always free to share your worries with our staff.

“Is it all online?”

You can do all your work online if you want – the choice is yours. We offer both text and web-based curriculum to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles, as well as access to onsite instructional support. But we offer lots of hands-on and off-campus experiences too, including art classes, Design Days, field trips, the University of Arizona’s Sky School, and other special activities to learn and earn high school credit at the same time!

“I still have questions!”

No problem! If you have more questions about credit recovery, or just want to learn more about Edge High School, you can contact Rob at [email protected] or 520-881-1389 Ext. 7301.
