Even if you are at your worst, Edge is going to help bring you to your best. Edge teachers really do care.
-Matthew King, Edge Alumni
At Edge High School, no one gets lost in the crowd – that’s because there is no crowd!
Our tuition-free high school is intentionally small. We maintain small class sizes so you can get to know the people you go to school with daily. Time and time again, we’ve seen how our incredible community and the caring, trusted relationships among staff and peers have helped our students find success in academics and life. When you have someone in your corner who is cheering you on, it’s easier to find your voice.
How do we do it?
We start with compassion and interest. When you enroll at Edge, our caring staff takes the time to get to know you: your goals, interests, needs and strengths. We help you get connected with like-minded people, make a plan for your future, and stand by you each step of the way.
We also have some pretty stellar programs designed to bring out the best in you. Here’s a sampling of things you can do at Edge to help you explore and develop a strong sense of self:
Improv Class
Think you could never get up on stage? You’re not alone. Nearly every student who participates in our popular Improv Class, in partnership with Live Theatre Workshop, feels the same way at the start.
But Improv Class is less about putting you on stage and more about fun, creativity, and lots and lots of laughs. Research shows that improv boosts confidence, develops positive social skills and even promotes creative problem-solving. Our Improv Class is 90% games with the opportunity to participate in a “light” performance on the last day. Everyone who participates LOVES this class.
Boys to Men
Boys to Men Tucson connects teenage masculine-identifying youth with positive adult male role models. When you join Boys to Men at Edge, you’ll meet with your mentorship circle weekly to share stories, work through challenges, and connect in a judgment-free environment. Boys to Men mentors can relate to what you’re going through, and share their own teenage stories. They don’t teach or lecture – they’re here to support you and listen.
With Boys to Men at Edge, you’ll also go on out-of-school adventure outings and adventure weekends. You’ll spend time exploring the outdoors and connecting with your group about the person you are becoming, developing goal-setting, accountability, and relationship skills.
“Boys to Men doesn’t just help in one way. It doesn’t just help you get friends or get less lonely…in the long run it helped me get better grades, and be more confident, it helped me want to do more with my life…Boys to Men helped me realize this is what I want to do when I’m older…I want to help people.”
-Boys to Men participant & current mentor
Social Edge
Social Edge, as it’s called at our Northwest campus, plans social activities and clubs. What makes this program different is that it was dreamed up and developed entirely by Edge students who wanted more opportunities to grow friendships. The group is open to everyone interested in having a say in the activities at Edge and ways to have even more fun. The group is currently planning “micro-events” to pour more social fun into the 10-minute break between classes. Bring your ideas!
Writing & Spoken Word
Writing is a fabulous way to explore who you are and find your voice. Our creative writing course creates space for students to explore feelings and process thinking in a safe and non-judgmental space. Students may journal, compose original poetry or short fiction or non-fiction and even have the opportunity to participate in a Spoken Word event. This course is taught by Delvyn Crawford, who will also be joining the Edge School Board. At Edge, we encourage you to be the author of your own story.
We want YOU to find your voice, with us. If you’re struggling in a larger high school and think you might benefit from small classes, caring teachers and programs designed to help you connect and belong, we encourage you to enroll at Edge. Get started today – don’t miss a day!
