Every student who walks through Edge High School’s doors arrives with a different story. Some want to move faster and graduate early. Some are racing the clock to graduation. Some need a school that sees the whole person first.
Edge was built for all three. Here’s how Edge supported former students, and what it could look like for you.
The Fast Tracker
Some students already know where they are going. They need a school that gets out of the way and lets them graduate as quickly as possible.
Cailyn Summers came to Edge on a friend’s referral with one clear goal: to graduate in less than four years. Our self-paced model made it possible. Students take three core academic classes at a time and finish a semester-long course in almost half the time, then start the next class in their learning plan without waiting for a new quarter.
With her counselor, Cailyn built a goal sheet that listed every class and task standing between her and graduation. She used the shorter school day and the self-paced courses to work on her own clock, checked her progress along the way, and crossed off each step as she finished it.
One step at a time, Cailyn completed high school in less than four years. She plans to become a physical therapist.
“No one will let you fail. It’s the student’s job to actually do the work, and the teachers offer guidance along the way.” — Cailyn Summers, Class of 2024
For a student who wants to graduate early and start the next chapter now, Edge turns a fixed timeline into one you control.
The Fresh Starter
Some students walk in against the graduation clock. Missed time. Credits they refuse to lose. Edge meets them where they are, with a realistic path to graduation day, no judgement, and a staff that knows how to get them there.
Cassandra Ashcraft enrolled with one year left before the age-21 cutoff and a stack of hard-earned credits she did not want to waste. She had tried several schools before Edge and never found the right mix of help and personal attention. That changed over a few summer conversations with Principal Dave Thatcher and Social Studies teacher Greg Cooper, who sat down with her, built a credit recovery plan, and gave her a reason to believe she could finish.
Cassandra signed up for three classes at a time and moved fast. She earned every credit she needed and finished a full month before the school year ended. Today, Cassandra works at VCA Animal Hospital and plans to become a vet tech and one day a livestock veterinarian.
Cassandra still credits her Social Studies teacher, Greg Cooper, for refusing to let her quit:
“Shout out to Greg for believing in me and not letting me give up even when I wanted to.” — Cassandra Ashcraft, Class of 2024
A fresh start is not a second chance you have to earn. At Edge, it is the place you begin again.
The Whole Person Learner
Some students need their school to see them fully before anything else can work. At Edge, counseling, Success Coaching, and licensed mental health staff are built into the school day. Small classes. A shame-free culture. Room to show up as you are and to ask for what you need.
Matt King knows what that kind of support can do. He arrived at Edge, shut down by his social anxiety. The staff did not rush him or write him off. They stayed with him day by day and helped open the door to an autism diagnosis that changed the course of his life. Matt found his voice at Edge. He went on to join the Lapan Leadership program, and today he returns as an ambassador for the school, telling new students what is possible here.
“Even if you are at your worst, Edge is going to help bring you to your best. Edge teachers really do care.” – Matthew King, Class of 2022
Michael Diaz found the same thing in his own way. His mom enrolled him as a freshman because he was not thriving in a larger middle school, hoping a smaller place would lower his stress and build his confidence. At Edge, Michael found a close-knit, accepting community where, in his words, “nobody will judge you for being you.” Field trips like the visit to the Catalina Mountains with the UA Sky School class made it easy to make friends. Caring teachers helped him make a plan and stick with it. Once Michael felt safe enough to try, doors opened. He discovered an interest in cybersecurity, took one of Edge’s first free Pima Community College courses, and earned a Basic Cybersecurity certificate that points straight toward his future in computer hardware engineering.
“I’d always been the kid who hated school growing up. Being here changed that.” — Michael Diaz, Class of 2024
